about pinay clothing
written by haydee vicedo, founder of Pinay Clothing
The idea for PINAY Clothing was born in October 1995 at a Filipino event in Los Angeles, CA (FPAC - Festival of Pilipino Arts and Culture to be exact) with the simple goal to share my pride in our Filipino culture via cute merchandise! I retired from the line in the early 2000s but fast forward to 2018 and I was working a corporate job, missing my connection to the Filipino community, yearning for a creative outlet, and wanting to find a way to give back. PINAY CLOTHING 2.0 was (re)born.
SOLISA created some glowed-up merch using two of PINAY’s most iconic designs – the OG PINAY PANO (our original in 1995 that my old biz partner, Pano, created) and the TIN TIN (created by a talented artist, Tin Tin DeJesus).
I met Nicole via the same fantastic woman who used to manage FPAC, the above-mentioned event that led me to start the clothing line, to begin with. Nicole was also an intern at FPAC (years after I ended the line) and most importantly – she started SOLISA to give back to the community. This collaboration with SOLISA was kismet.
